Applicants must apply concurrently to the Colorado Boettcher Teacher Residency, Regis University or Adams State University, and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Alternative Teacher Licensing Program. There are a series of steps which must be completed to become eligible by CDE for alternative teacher licensure and to be admitted into the Colorado Boettcher Teacher Residency. The selection process will take place January – May 2013.
Step 1:

Currently accepting secondary math and science applications (Denver).
Please send one packet of hard copies of the following items to the Colorado Boettcher Teacher Residency Office, 600 Grant Street Ste 525, Denver, CO 80203. The items are: (i) Praxis II/PLACE a copy of your score report (unofficial), (ii) Statement of purpose, (iii) Essay, (iv) Resume or curriculum vitae, (v) copy of completed Release of Education Records form for either Regis (Denver) or Adams State (San Luis Valley), and (vi) Copy of CDE statement of eligibility or initial license.
If any of the CDE application requirements are incomplete by the application deadline, a detailed plan of completion MUST be submitted to Colorado Boettcher Teacher Residency Office with the hard copies of your other documents. The plan of completion should address any relevant information regarding your CDE evaluation status.
Step 2:
Submit the CDE-approved finger printing card directly to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a $39.50 money order or certified check made payable to CBI. The fingerprint card CDE uses is a standard, 8 inch by eight inch square FBI card marked “Applicant” in the upper left corner and should be available at any law enforcement agency. The fingerprints can be taken at any law enforcement agency across the country or at an embassy in a foreign country.

Step 3:
Complete the CDE Statement of Eligibility (SOE) Application for the Alternative Teacher License Process.
You will obtain your statement of eligibility (SOE) through the alternative license application process. If you have an initial license you may move on to step 4.

Request official test scores be sent directly to the Colorado Department of Education (Agency code 7040) by the appropriate testing services:

(Minimum overall GPA of 2.75 from previously attended colleges/universities is required.) All international credits must be evaluated. Send original transcripts to one of the three approved services.

- One Online Observation Form from a person that has observed the applicant with children of the appropriate age. (Online form sent to observer from within the online application.)

Step 5b:
Adams State University Department of Teacher Education
Please submit all online application materials to Adams State University by April 26, 2013.

- Official Transcripts from each U.S. regionally accredited institution attended with a print date of within one year of your application date.
- GRE or MAT official scores (only if GPA is below 3.0) If the GPA is between 2.75 and 2.99, the student must take the GRE with a minimum score of 1250 or obtain a passing score on the MAT. At this time, the candidate is conditionally admitted and must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA from then on.
- Statement of Intent and Essay
- Two current letters of recommendation written on letterhead specifically addressing the area in which the student wishes to be admitted, speaking to the candidate’s strengths and potential
- Release of Education Records form
- Submit $30 application fee
Step 6:
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- New forms become available January 1 each year.
- The school code for Regis University is 001363.
- The school code for Adams State University is 001345.
- Be sure to complete an application for 2012-2013 AND 2013-2014.
Be sure to keep a copy of all materials you submit for your own records.
